Guest Bathroom Remodel
We bought our home in November of 2020 during the housing market madness. When we purchased our home we bought it sight unseen and there were already multiple offers on it. 2020 was a crazy year!
Our house was built in 1983 and hadn’t really been updated at all when we bought it. In the first year we took out all of the carpet and original tile and replaced it with LVP and a more modern tile. We also painted the kitchen cabinets and got all new appliances. What we waited to do, however, until our third year in, was the guest bathroom.
The guest bathroom was scary if I’m being honest. There was a bathtub shower combo that was grimy and felt uneven when you stepped into it (I thought I might fall through). When guests would stay with us they would use our shower in the primary bathroom that was a bit newer. The vanity, like everything else in the house was created for a person that had to be under 5 feet tall. We procrastinated on this until finally, when I was pregnant and we were going to have a lot of family visiting we broke down and started the remodel.
We demoed everything, the vanity, the shower, and even part of the wall. Once we had the drywall repaired and replaced in some areas snd skim coated the walls we added in a new vanity and sink and a new bathtub shower combo. Since it wasn’t our forever home and we just needed something a bit newer and fresher, we bought one of the more affordable showers from Lowes as well as a new bathroom vanity. I had a lot of fun with the finishes, we decided to go gold and bought a gold faucet, shower head, bathtub drain, toilet paper holder, and sink faucet. For the vanity knobs I got these really cute floral wooden knobs from Etsy.
For the wall paint I wanted to remain neutral for resale purposes but do something unique. I decided to use lime paint for the walls using a brand called Vasari, and I selected a color called Dolomite, which was kind of an ashy beige color. When you apply lime paint for the first time it can definitely be overwhelming, it’s not like regular paint and you want it to be uniform but also textured at the same time. I spent hours manipulating the paint (it’s very malleable) while pregnant, overthinking at times. It would look pretty different from when it was wet to when it was dry which messed with my head. I did love the non-toxic feature which was especially nice while I was pregnant, especially because I was nesting and just wanting to do all of the things!
Here are some other benefits of Lime Paint in addition to being non-toxic:
- It allows the walls to breathe which helps prevent mold
- Very durable
- Antibacterial and fungicidal
- Hypoallergenic and odorless
- Absorbs nitrogen and improves air quality
- Gives a natural, textured and timeless look
With these attributes, it really did feel perfect for the bathroom! To complete the bathroom, I just added these sleek black floating shelves from Amazon and added a plant as well as some cute containers for things like cotton wipes, q-tips, and floss in case guests forgot theirs.
So there you have it! It only took us 3 years to start and 6 months to complete 😀
